How Building Kathryn A. Bolinske’s Website Opened the Door to More

When Kathryn A. Bolinske hired me to build her website, I didn’t know that the project would eventually lead to building websites for some of her clients, too.
That’s one of my favorite things about this work. A project begins with a specific need, but the relationships that grow from it can take you somewhere unexpected.
Meet Kathryn A. Bolinske
Kathryn is a writer, ghostwriter, and editor who helps people turn their knowledge, experiences, and ideas into engaging content. Her work includes business books, memoirs, articles, and marketing materials for print and the web. She helps clients find the words and structure to share their stories while preserving their individual voices.
There’s a natural connection between what Kathryn does and what I do. She helps people communicate through writing, and I help create websites where their work can be discovered and explored.
Where It Started
The initial assignment was Kathryn’s website: creating an online home for her business and helping her present her work to the people she wanted to reach.
A website is personal, even when it’s for a business. You’re asking someone to understand what you do and help communicate it to the world. That makes the working relationship just as important as the finished pages.
For me, that’s part of what makes website projects rewarding. There’s a person behind every decision, and getting to understand their business is part of doing the work well.
How the Work Grew
What started with Kathryn’s website eventually expanded into website work for some of her clients.
One project introduced me to a wider circle of people, each with their own business, perspective, and needs. The work grew through my relationship with Kathryn, giving me the opportunity to help more people build their online presence.
Being brought into Kathryn’s professional circle means something. Those relationships matter to her, and I take that responsibility seriously.
More Than a Finished Website
This experience reminded me that the value of a project can extend well beyond its original scope.
You can set out to build one website and end up building several new relationships along the way. You can finish the work you were hired to do and discover that it was the beginning of something bigger.
I’m grateful to Kathryn for the opportunity to build her website and for the connections that followed. Getting to work with her and some of her clients has made that first project especially meaningful.
