Prayers for Nepal

I had the opportunity to attend the Nepal Cultural Quilt – VA250 Lecture, “From Monarchy to Republic: Nepal’s 250-Year Journey and Its Deepening Partnership with the United States,” in Fredericksburg. It was a meaningful evening of history, diplomacy, culture, and community.
Dr. Lekh Nath Adhikari shared insights into Nepal’s remarkable transformation over the past 250 years and the evolution of Nepal-U.S. relations. Ambassador Scott DeLisi, former U.S. Ambassador to Nepal, spoke movingly about the devastating floods, sharing stories of what communities are experiencing on the ground and, importantly, how we can help those affected.
The evening concluded with a candlelight vigil, where Buddhist monks chanted prayers as the community gathered in solidarity, compassion, and hope for the people of Nepal. It was a powerful reminder that relationships between countries are built not only through diplomacy, but through friendship, cultural understanding, and people-to-people connections.
I’m especially looking forward to working with the Fredericksburg-Kathmandu Sister City and helping strengthen these connections between our communities.
